After only one season in the NBA, Victor Wembanyama is already recognized for his exceptional work ethic. But it is precisely this aspect that surprised him when he arrived in the league: some stars work less than he imagined, which seems to disappoint the young Frenchman.

«What surprised me the most? This is truly the attitude of the best players, in good and bad ways.»explained Victor Wembanyama in an interview with Sports Illustrated. «On the one hand, some are truly impressive and inspiring in the way they approach the game every night. On the other hand, there are some that I used to like, but now I doubt they deserve their status. I feel like they aren’t working as much as I thought.»

«Some players I looked up to growing up, I’m not disappointed, but I was like, “That’s it?”»continued inside Spurs. «On the other hand, others like Kevin Durant or Rudy Gobert — who I got to know better with the national team — I know their work ethic and their way of seeing the game. It’s really inspiring. I want to follow their example.»

At 20 years old, while he’s still developing as a player, the sophomore admits he continues to admire some NBA legends still active. Kevin Durant, in particular: «Because I’ve seen what happens behind the scenes, I know it’s authentic.» The disillusionment is therefore not total, far from it.
