Fabio Di Giannantonio, currently 10th in the championship tied with Spaniard Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia), had been suffering since dislocating his left shoulder after a fall during testing at the Austrian GP in August, but had continued to drive.
The 26-year-old is expected to take part in the Australian GP this weekend, then the Thai GP the following week, before returning home for an operation that will miss him from the final two races of the season, in Malaysia and Valencia. .
“I can’t risk not being on top”
“I would have liked to race to Valencia, finish the season in the best possible way with the team and then take all the time necessary to manage the operation, recovery and rehab”said Di Giannantonio.
“Unfortunately, the schedule is very demanding, the winter break is very short and we cannot risk not being in top physical shape at the start of 2025”he added.

Di Giannantonio first stood on the podium in Australia last year before taking his first MotoGP victory in Qatar.
