In the deal on TV rights for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, the Professional Football League and beIN Sports have reached another agreement on the promotion of Qatar. If it is up to the clubs to make their proposals on the terms of this deal with the Middle Eastern state linked to PSG, OM should favor a display on advertising panels rather than on the jersey.

It’s a deal that’s definitely getting a lot of talk. By signing an agreement with beIN Sports on the broadcasting of Ligue 1 matches (with DAZN), the Professional Football League is also committed to promoting Qatar. In total, the deal will bring in a total of 100 million euros for the LFP: 80 million in TV rights and 20 million in sponsorship deals. Concerning the terms of this sponsorship partnership, the LFP highlights advertising panels in the stadiums. It is up to the clubs to make proposals to the League.

At OM, the jersey sponsor option already seems to be ruled out anyway, as La Provence reported this Monday. The club would in any case have objected to an advertisement for the Middle Eastern state, directly linked to PSG through QSI and its president Nasser Al-Kelhaïfi, president of beIN Media Group, appearing on its tunic white of its players. However, the LFP does not mention presence on the jerseys for this promotion of Qatar in its requests to clubs.

OM’s decision is also explained by the sum paid by BeIN Sports, 738,000 euros for each Ligue 1 club, considered not high enough compared to what the other jersey sponsors pay, including “Sublime Côte d’Ivoire “, competitor of “Qatar Tourism.” OM could therefore find common ground with the LFP by promoting Qatar on the removable panels at the Vélodrome stadium during pre-matches.

This agreement had already made other clubs cringe, notably in Ligue 2: “There is no logic either for us to display Qatar, excuse me. I have nothing against them, but why would I put up a ‘Long live Qatar’ or ‘Visit Qatar’ sign? It’s not my sponsor today,” the president, Claude Ferrandi, whispered a month ago.
