UBB wins the standoff against Aviron Bayonnais – News – Union Bègles (UBB Rugby)

After a close match from start to finish, UBB won 30 to 27 against a great team. Carried by a sold-out Chaban stadium once again, it secures a third victory in a row in the championship before hosting next weekend.

For the tthird consecutive time Chaban was sold out for this reception from Aviron Bayonnais. Pushed by the Chaban public, the residents were the first to take action and camped in the Bayonne camp. But twice a good blue and white defense managed to recover the ball and repel the danger.

The Bayonnais then proved dangerous in their turn, following a recovery ball, Giovanni Habel Kuffner found the fault and was taken over by a welcome back from Matthieu Jalibert (10th). But it was the Girondins who scored first in the 12th minute of play, following a small kick over the top for himself Matthieu Jalibert accelerated and was caught 5m from the line, on the following beat Nicolas Depoortere appeared to score the first try of the meeting (12e). More two minutes later the Basques responded by a beautiful action of their three-quarters, Victor Hannoun escaped on its left wing and found Maxime Machenaud inside who scored close to the poles. Joris Segonds transformed and allowed his team to regain the advantage at quarter of an hour of play (16th; 5-7).

Grégory Patat’s players then continued to put pressure on the Bordeaux & Blanc but were unable to find the fault in the defense. The pace of the match fell somewhat, before a nice sequence of conservation from Maxime Lucu’s men which allowedget a penalty. 40m slightly to the left, Matthieu Jalibert passed it and put UBB back in front (8-7).

Just before the break, it was the second line of the UBB which would shine, with first Jonny Gray who found the fault at the level and managed to transmit after contact to Max Lucu who played his two against one perfectly for send Cyril Cazeaux to trial. The number scored between the posts and facilitated the transformation of his opener Matthieu Jalibert who transformed and brought the score to 15-7 for his team (37th). On a final sequence after the siren, Rowing obtained a penalty and Joris Segonds brought his team to 15-10.

When we resumed, our Girondins immediately put pressure on the Bayonnais and on a small side well negotiated by the Lucu-Jalibert hinge it was Temo Matiu who accelerated and marked his corner first try under the Bordeaux colors (42; 20-10).

A few minutes later it was Romain Buros who was at the conclusion good collective work, after a good ball carried and several times of play from his forwards the ball reached him on the left wing and the Girondin rear just had to accelerate to give his team a 15-point lead (49; 25-10). Matthieu Jalibert transformed and even added two more points for his team.

The Bayonnais then tried to get their hands back on the ball and had several good sequences in the Bordeaux camp. If the Bordeaux & Blanc defended well at first, the Basques ended up scoringafter several periods of play from their forwards, through their flanker Rodrigo Bruni (27-15; 57th). Joris Segonds added the transformation and allowed his team to come back to 10 points.

Then 2 minutes later, this same Segonds upon receiving a goal kick from our Girondins, slammed a 40m drop et brought his team within testing range (27-20; 60th). The Bordeaux & Blanc then tried to go on the attack again and even developed a good offensive sequence lasting almost 3 minutes, but finally committed a forward move (65th), giving the ball back to Grégory Patat’s men.

The last quarter of an hour saw the Bayonnais push to get back into the match and after several positive actions in the Gironde camp, Arthur Iturria’s teammates ended up finding the fault through Yoan Orabé, who came into play on the wing, who scored from a corner (72nd). Joris Segonds, impeccable against the poles, transformed into a corner and brought the team back to 27-27!

The end of the match was tense, but the people of Bordeaux pushed by the public of Chaban, managed to obtain a penalty, what was trying and converted Matéo Garcia from 45m on the right, decisive again in money time (30-27; 76e). The Bordeaux side led by 3 points and would maintain this short lead in the final minutes of the match thanks to good defense. They even recovered the ball on a final Bayonne touch at the siren and the Chaban-Delmas stadium could let its joy burst forth !
