In the world of TREC (Competitive Horse Riding Techniques), Lisbeth Lumpp looks like a scarecrow. Several times French champion and world champion of this discipline of horse orienteering, the rider installed at La Chapelle-Montligeon (Orne) is a world reference in a sport ultra-dominated by the French.

From September 5 to 7, 2024, she participated in the European championships of the discipline in the Netherlands.

You should know that European competitions are easier than French championships, because we have a density of riders here that has no equivalent.

The champion began the competition with a first event, the Orientation and Regularity Course (POR) which consists, using a map, of arriving at the right checkpoint, at the right time, by the right path. .

We use a compass and a map, and we have to count the number of strides our horse takes to know exactly where to turn. Obviously, GPS is prohibited.

reminds the rider. At the end of this first event, the Frenchwoman is 2e in the ranking.

Mastery of gaits

On the second day, she obtained her best score on a gait mastery test. “The horse must gallop at the slowest pace and then return at the fastest pace,” she explains. She is then in a good place to go on the podium.

On the last test, mounted on Filou du Petit Buisson, a 9-year-old French saddle cross Haflinger, she is motivated like never before.

Soon an international competition at La Chapelle

Lisbeth Lumpp and her friends created an association Les Traits Gourmands. A group that would like to organize, on May 10 and 11, 2025, a major international TREC competition in La Chapelle-Montligeon. “It would be a round which will count for the French Cup, and which would qualify for the French championships,” specifies the rider. Foreign riders could make the trip. Fifty athletes would be expected, as would driving competitors, at a smaller level. “I thought about routes in the Réno-Valdieu forest, which is a fantastic playground for orientation. We can find difficulties. I received a very warm welcome from landowners and hunters, as well as support from the town hall of La Chapelle and the Montligeon sanctuary, which will help us park the vehicles. » The public will be welcome on the course to observe these international riders.
The “les traits gourmands” association is looking for sponsors. Contact on 06 48 44 05 33.

“It was the only title I was missing. I had good pressure, but pressure nonetheless. »

A beautiful suspense

The Varied Terrain Course (PTV) test consists of reproducing a hiking route. We must overcome obstacles, open barriers, and immobilize the horse. In a circle marked on the ground, she must make her horse stop and dismount without it moving an inch.

Which she does perfectly… But a commissioner notices that the horse’s hoof touches the circle. She therefore obtains a score of 0 on this obstacle. Fortunately, she had enough of a lead in the standings to stay in the lead. She thus becomes European champion on a 100% French podium.

Elite French Champion

Happiness never comes alone. Saturday September 28 and Sunday September 29, 2024, Lisbeth participated in the French Elite championships in Crosey, in . Under pouring rain on the orientation and regularity course, the rider took control of the event, never to leave it again. “I took the lead in the ranking from this first event and following a very correct mastery of the pace, I increased my lead,” she described on the way back. Finally, on a successful course in varied terrain, she was crowned elite French champion, the highest level in Trec. “The last course required great honesty. Filou du Petit Buisson fulfilled all the contracts with bravery,” summarizes Lisbeth.

“I think this is the first time this has happened,” says the veterinarian. The fireplace must definitely be very small at home to accommodate all the medals of this orienteering champion.
