An ultra practical function arrives on Instagram

Blackmail with intimate photos and videos is a real scourge that Instagram wants to fight against. For this, Meta is implementing new features, including blocking screenshots.

It is quite easy to control the content published on your Instagram account in public. However, many people think they are more protected when they send a photo or video as a private message. With the impression of controlling the distribution of content, we feel safe. This is even more true when sending an ephemeral message. And this is where we forget that the recipient can take a screenshot of it and therefore broadcast the content.

But this will soon be ancient history. In fact, screenshots of messages in single view or authorized rereading will no longer be possible. A message will warn anyone who attempts manipulation. Likewise, to prevent smart people from circumventing the measure, the media of said messages can no longer be opened on the desktop for the PC version.

As a bonus, for accounts for adolescents, the Californian company will integrate other measures aimed at protecting them. Thus, a filter for follow-up requests will be added to block the most suspicious ones or send them to a Spam folder depending on their level. Younger people will also be informed if the person contacting them lives in another country.

Finally, in addition to a support measure for victims (reserved for the United States), Instagram will deploy a measure to combat nudity. The latter will automatically blur images of a sexual nature and display a preventive message. This will indicate that the person receiving the media is in control and should not feel pressure to respond. Some options will then be offered, including one to block the interlocutor.
