the Canadian could go up to draft him

It’s Tuesday May 7 that we will know at what rank the Canadian will have the chance to be drafted next month. #Lottery #Draft

Obviously, in an ideal world for the team’s leaders, the hockey Gods would reward the Canadian by giving him the chance to draft Macklin Celebrini.

But the chances are good that this won’t happen. In fact, according to 91.5% of possible scenarios, the CH will draft between second and seventh place.

If the Canadian were to draft a player other than Celebrini, the club would not have its first choice on its list. Because yes, I assume Celebrini is in the front row.

But still, the club likes its chances of drafting a striker – because no, it won’t be a defender – that it likes.

For what? Because as provided by Arpon Basu in an (excellent and complete) paper on the off-season of the Flannel, there will be so many defenders who will be drafted early that the CH, if it indeed drafts between five and seven, is hopeful that several big forwards will be available.

And out of the lot, there will undoubtedly be one to his liking.

Among the attackers he likes, we note the presence of Ivan Demidov. We are talking about an excellent Russian player who is sometimes compared to Matvei Michkov, but it is not a good comparison.

Demidov is seen as a more complete player and is much less controversial than Michkov. He also has just one year left on his contract as of now, compared to Michkov’s three seasons from 2023 to 2026.

Even if the Canadian was not delighted with Michkov last year, we feel that it is different with Demidov. He would have no hesitation in choosing him if he was available. –Arpon Basu

We can expect that the Canadian will not be able to draft him, unless he is in possession of the second right to speak in the auction. But according to Basu, the CH likes him to the point where they could even consider going up to the draft to choose him, if he does not win the lottery.

That’s a big statement.

In fact, if it takes a defender from the youth bank to move up a few ranks, that would meet the goal of the off-season: use the surplus of defenders to find a quality attacker.

Yes, things will change this summer.
