The 27-year-old’s trial began this week at the Saint-Hyacinthe courthouse. He is accused of assault, harassment, death threats and sexual assault in this case, after he had already been tried for two other sexual assault charges this summer.

The acts he is accused of allegedly took place between 2018 and 2020, a period during which he played in the American Hockey League (AHL).

According to what was reported by The Pressthe alleged victim, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, met Gagné through Instagram. She describes him as a violent and controlling man who drank and drank heavily. She also claims he raped her numerous times during their relationship.

The woman says she decided to leave him after Gagné had a tantrum which ended in yet another assault.

“At that point, I was crying, crying, crying. Big tears. He just penetrated me. My tears were flowing. In my head, it was empty,” she said in class Monday.

The hockey player then allegedly harassed her, including creating fake social media accounts. He allegedly wrote to her: “I’m going to burn your house down. You’re going to see the consequences. I paid someone to kill you. I’m not afraid of the police.” That’s when the woman filed a complaint.

Gagné’s trial will continue this week. As a reminder, he was sentenced to six months in prison in 2023 for harassing an ex-girlfriend. The native also pleaded guilty to luring a teenage girl under the age of 16 last January. He was also sentenced to prison in this case.
