During the 1/32nd finals match of the French Cup between the
Girondins de Bordeaux and the Stade Rennais (1-4), Eric Barrèrecommentator and journalist, spoke on this gala poster. He notably paid tribute to Pierrot Labat, who died during the night from Saturday to Sunday, at the age of 88.
« We wanted to have a thought because we learned, a few minutes before kick-off, of the death of a glorious trainer of the Girondins de Bordeaux who left last night (Saturday to Sunday), Pierrot Labat, taken away by illness. He died at the age of 88. We have a huge thought. He trained dozens and dozens of players at the Girondins de Bordeaux with a unique method. Lizarazu, Dugarry, Zidane for these three, but there are so many that come to mind like Yoann Gourcuff, Marouane Chamakh, Marc Planus… There are a lot of generations of footballers who owe him a lot. We have a huge thought for Pierrot Labat. »
Of course, players like Zidane and Gourcuff were not trained at the club but were in contact with Pierrot Labat.
Then Patrice Ferri, consultant, presented this poster:
« There are a few divisions between the two clubs. Not so long ago obviously, it was an Atlantic derby you could say. Not a derby of the region, but of the Atlantic coast. I believe that this Sunday, in the minds of the players, they were still in that spirit. We are not going to talk about nostalgia for them but about realism and current events because that is certainly what they are experiencing. There were still close to 20,000 supporters. There aren't many National 2 clubs that have 20,000 spectators. There is still a real core which is formed behind, in support of this team, of the glorious past of this club. »
