Things are rocking at La Paillade. Swept away at the Parc des Princes on the second day (0-6) then logically dominated by Nantes (1-3) and Rennes afterwards (0-3), MHSC, already the worst defense in the Ligue 1 championship, also finds itself dead last in the standings (1 pt). Worrying first steps for a team weighed down by injuries. And which could well cost its coach, Michel Der Zakarian, dearly.

According to information from the daily newspaper L’Équipe, the 61-year-old technician, who returned to Hérault in February 2023 to (already) get things back on track, would be in danger for his future on the bench. The newspaper indicates that its president Laurent Nicollin, his advisor Michel Mézy and his sporting director Bruno Carotti spoke during the course of last week with the executives of the squad, in order to take the temperature. Discussions which would then have been extended to other elements of the group, and which would confirm a tense relationship between the Franco-Armenian coach and his locker room. Also not helped by a summer transfer window almost at a standstill due to the economic context, Michel Der Zakarian therefore finds himself in a very bad position before the crucial reception of AJ Auxerre on Sunday at La Mosson (5 p.m.). A (first) success against a direct opponent for survival could give the Montpellier coach some respite, even if a few names have already been mentioned internally to replace him: those of Philippe Montanier, Jocelyn Gourvennec, Sabri Lamouchi and even Jean-Louis Gasset, all currently free.
