Nesta admits to feeling frustrated after Monza surprise Inter 1-1

Alessandro Nesta admits he would’ve been pleased to get a point off Inter before the match, but ‘considering the way the game was going,’ Monza are disappointed.

The strugglers are still seeking their first victory of the campaign and confidence was low when reigning champions of Italy Inter came to the U-Power Stadium on Sunday evening.

However, substitute Dany Mota Carvalho had soared above everyone to nod in an Armando Izzo cross and give Monza the surprise lead on 81 minutes.

They were pegged back by a Denzel Dumfries tap-in seven minutes later, sealing the 1-1 result.

“I am happy with the performance, because the lads work hard. Clearly, if you had asked me before kick-off if I’d be pleased with a draw against Inter, I’d have said yes, but considering the way the game was going, we are disappointed,” Nesta confessed to DAZN.

Nesta still seeking first win

His team seemed focused on frustrating the Nerazzurri rather than creating their own opportunities, although ultimately Stefano Turati barely had a save to make.

“We sat deeper than usual and managed to neutralise them, but the plan had been to be a bit further forward, play between the lines of their defender and wing-backs.

“The Dumfries goal was a bit of a fluke, because the Carlos Augusto cross looked like it was deflected. I saw a good performance, we shook things up with the substitutions and maybe in future I’ll make changes earlier.”

While Milan Djuric was battling with Carlos Augusto throughout the match, Nesta was asked if he will always focus on a big centre-forward or consider a different approach with the lighter and quicker strikers?

“Djuric helps us hold up the ball, but there will be games where we use Maldini, Dany Mota and Caprari to give pace and play the ball to feet. It’s going to be a long season and we need many different approaches we can draw upon,” concluded the coach.
