The commercial giant of La Jonquera is becoming even more gigantic and will open in a few days.
A symbol of hyperconsumption, located just behind the border between the Pyrénées-Orientales and Catalonia, the Gran Jonquera complex of the Escudero group is still expanding.
With an estimated investment of 40 million eurosthe complex will simply double its surface area. It cannot be said that the current Gran Jonquera is cramped but the success is such that there will now be a total of 58,300 square meters of shops and restaurants but also 71,500 square meters of parking with more than 3,000 indoor and outdoor seats for vehicles.
Enough to largely satisfy, in particular, the French clientele which represents 70% of visitors to Gran Jonquera since its opening in 2013 in its “outlet” format (clearance).
This is the October 10 that this extension will be open to the public, 6 years after the announcement of the doubling of its capacity.
More Zara in Figueres
According to the Diari de Girona, this expansion will produce 250 jobs while brands from the Inditex group such as Bershka or Stradivarius. Mango, Adidas, Toni Pons, JD or Julia Young are announced in the new facilities as well as Zara which is leaving its emblematic premises of Figueres city center for the new-look Gran Jonquera.
Some brands will benefit from the extension. This will be the case for LeftiesZara’s “low cost” brand, which is going to expand.
On the catering side, Enjoy Itthe trendy beachfront establishment in Empuriabrava will be joining the traditional buffets that are part of the place’s fame.
Note that the giga building will be equipped with photovoltaic panels capable of producing more than 770,000 kWc entirely dedicated to the consumption of the shopping center.
