Championship – Eloi Pélissier: “Achieving an almost perfect performance” – League

Eloi Pélissier, hooker for Olympique XIII, looks back on the semi-final won 21-20 against Bradford Bulls and talks about the final against Wakefield.

What do you think of your individual performance and the collective performance in the semi-final against Bradford?

Collectively, the team sought collective strength in its own corners to succeed in overturning this match. Individually, I tried to bring my qualities as a puncher, as an impact player when I came on to speed up the game and change the course of the match a little, with the added bonus of this drop which keeps us in front at the end .

A dream final against Wakefield at home, how do you think they can be beaten and what will be the key to the match?

The logic is respected, 1st vs 2nd. Wakefield will be on guard despite flying over the championship as their only defeat was at Toulouse. To win, you will have to achieve an almost perfect performance. You will have to keep the ball alive, play a of movements, while also facing their environment in moments of arm wrestling.

What assessment do you make of your four years at the TO and what will you remember?

A magnificent Championship title in 2021 and a historic rise to the Super League. A good experience to return to the Super League with a second French club in 2022. A very sad moment in 2023 with this defeat in the final which deprives us of playing in the Super League again. This year is not over, but very proud to make a 3rd final with the club.

What is your assessment of your season?

I haven’t been used constantly this year, but I’m having a lot of fun at the end of the season performing with this group of friends. I’m happy, I feel in great shape and I continue to fill the memory box.

Do you have any ideas for next season and is a return to England a possibility?

My agent is currently discussing and looking at the options I may have. Today it’s more difficult, because with three children and my wife already living in , we also have to think as a family about choosing England or not. What is certain is that this passion for rugby union as a professional player drives me and always makes me dream. I feel young in my body and my mind, I have no physical problems, so I would like to play professionally for a few more years. There is also the French championship which remains an option in my head.

Now for the finale to finish well. And then the French team, of which I am very proud to once again put on the tunic blue white red to defend our French rugby.
