For its first home match of the season on Sunday, against La Rochelle, Stade Toulousain will continue to pay tribute to its young hooker Medhi Narjissi, after the minutes of applause held on the seven Top 14 pitches last weekend.

Having disappeared at sea on August 7 on a South African beach on the sidelines of a tournament with the French under-18 team, Medhi Narjissi, son of former professional hooker Jalil Narjissi from Agen, was licensed in the Haute-Garonne club. Since then, psychological units have been set up with his young teammates to help them “cope with the horror”, recalled the club’s president, Didier Lacroix, this Wednesday in his traditional back-to-school press conference. “We had to talk, organize things that we had perhaps never seen before and that we hope not to see again”, he indicated.

The Toulouse leader also had a word for the bereaved Narjissi family, calling for “transparency” in the investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy in order to “be able to support the family in its reconstruction in the face of a disappearance which can certainly involve responsibilities”.

“We have a duty to remember”

A tribute to the young player Medhi Narjissi will then be paid before the Top 14 match between Toulouse and La Rochelle on Sunday evening (9:05 p.m.), as announced on Wednesday by the Toulouse president. The Haute-Garonne club will also pay tribute to Helen Tekori, the wife of the former Samoan second row and U21 coach Iosepha Tekori, who died suddenly in July at the age of 44, during its first match at Ernest-Wallon this season.

“We have a duty to remember and provide daily support to these grieving families,” Didier Lacroix finally declared.
