Auditioned at the Assembly, Bruno Le Maire wishes Michel Barnier “good luck”

The resigning Minister of the Economy is being questioned by the Finance Committee of the National Assembly.

Last hearing in the Finance Committee of the National Assembly for the resigning Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire. And in front of the parliamentarians, who did not spare him during his previous appearances, he seemed nostalgic on Monday, September 9.

“I will not hide my emotion from you, because this will be my last hearing at the Finance Committee after 35 hearings. I repeat my happiness and my pride,” explained the resigning minister.

He had a word for the LFI MP and chairman of the Finance Committee, Eric Coquerel. “To you, Mr. President, and to all the parliamentarians, I am grateful for the quality of the debates. Eric Coquerel is not Bruno Le Maire and Bruno Le Maire is not Eric Coquerel and that’s fine: that’s democracy.”

“A question of political choices”

He wished “good luck” to the Barnier government: the tenant of Bercy will hand over the keys with a deficit in full swing, at 5.6% in 2024.

But he remains optimistic: Bruno Le Maire judged that France could meet its objective of a public deficit of 5.1% of GDP in 2024 and 3% in 2027, while the budgetary trajectory is threatened with slippage.

“We can and we must maintain our 5.1% deficit in 2024, and it is entirely within our reach,” he assured, despite tax revenues that “could be lower than expected” this year. “We can and we must maintain our 3% in 2027. It is only a question of political choices,” added the minister.
