In October, the director and environmental activist came to Villefranche with his team to take several portraits of Villefranche. A project called “Les Français”, which aims to photograph France and the French people who make it up.
Documentaries, TV shows, books… Yann Arthus-Bertrand never stops taking on projects. Among these challenges, the environmental activist has set himself the goal of photographing more than 20,000 French people across the country. With his team, he travels the roads of France to set up his photography studio in the cities he visits.
For this project, Yann Arthus-Bertrand is working with Hervé Le Bras, a French demographer and historian. An idea that was born thirty years ago and has grown little by little, especially over the last two years.
With a brown canvas in the background, he draws the portrait of the inhabitants of each French department. Cook, postman, firefighters, florists… Each one comes with an object that represents him, a pet that is dear to him or even a costume passed down from generation to generation. No artifice, to leave all the space to the subject.
In October in Villefranche
In October, the famous aerial landscape photographer will be going to Villefranche-de-Rouergue to take pictures of the inhabitants of West Aveyron. A project organized by the first-year SAPAT (Personal Service and Territorial Animation) students of the Beauregard high school, led by their teacher who was the one who initiated the contact with Yann Arthus-Bertrand. “A superb project for the students,” rejoices Corinne Brigitte, headmistress of the high school. The logistics and welcoming of people will be ensured by the students. The town hall will also oversee the organization of this event.
For the shooting, Villefranchois will be able to come alone, with family, with friends, with colleagues in order to participate in this ambitious project. In 2025, Yann Arthus-Bertrand should exhibit his creations in the cities where he has been.
