The court of first instance in Marrakech sentenced Said Ait Mahdi to three months in prison with a fine of 500 dirhams, as well as 10,000 dirhams in damages to the civil party. Pursued in detention since December 2024, the head of the Coordination of Victims of the Al-Haouz earthquake was found guilty of defamation, publication of false allegations aimed at violating privacy and insulting public officials. In connection with the same case, three other individuals were acquitted.

The prosecutions followed complaints filed by provincial law enforcement officials, including the governor of Al-Haouz. At the end of the trial, defense lawyers said they would appeal.
