Apple Intelligence takes up more and more space with each update.
We don’t really know Apple Intelligence in France yet. Behind this name hides all of Apple’s services using generative AI.
Apple Intelligence will officially arrive in France this year. In the meantime, the service improves with each iOS update, but these improvements come at a price.
Apple Intelligence has doubled in size
As indicated 9To5MacApple originally required 4 GB of storage space on iPhone when the Apple Intelligence rollout happened with iOS 18.1.
The particularity of Apple Intelligence, like the Galaxy AI functions at Samsung, is to use the capabilities of the smartphone to create AI “ on device ”, without sending your information to servers in the cloud.
But now, Apple has deployed iOS 18.2 with new functions around AI. And it is no longer 4 GB that Apple Intelligence needs, but 7 GB.
Problem, and unsurprisingly from Apple, it is not possible to deactivate these functions to save space. You must dedicate 7 GB of storage to these functions, even if you choose not to use them. When you know how expensive storage is at Apple, it’s something to cringe at.
Above all, Apple could continue on this path with the improvements proposed in the iOS 18 updates. Apple Intelligence could continue to gain weight.
