On January 4, 2025, the President of the Republic of the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi received laboratory equipment and reagent kits provided by the Africa CDC, as part of the fight against Mpox. This discount is part of a national effort to better combat the epidemic, with the support of international partners.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Health, Dr. Samuel Roger Kamba, affirmed that this donation will facilitate access to quality care for populations, wherever they are, and will allow more accurate diagnosis and treatment. fast. He stressed that this equipment is essential to strengthen the response to the Mpox epidemic in the DRC.

The DRC remains the country most affected by Mpox in Africa, with more than 9,500 confirmed cases, according to the latest WHO report. The disease has recently been marked by the emergence of clade 1b, a more dangerous variant, first detected in September 2023. Although the epidemic situation appears stable, the WHO warns of the continued spread of this strain, particularly outside Africa.

To support the response, Africa CDC also announced an envelope of $600,000 to finance field teams, in order to continue screening and treatment efforts in the affected provinces. The Director General of Africa CDC, Dr.
