Social service institutions established in Habero sub-zone, Eritrea, have significantly improved the quality of life of residents.
Mr Fitwi Gebremeskel, Habero sub-zone administrator, said the village clustering initiative had enabled more residents to access essential services including healthcare, education , drinking water and mobile telephone services.
Mr. Fitwi reported that nine of the 11 administrative zones in the sub-zone now have access to drinking water, with efforts underway to extend this service to the remaining zones.
The sub-zone’s educational facilities include 36 schools, ranging from nursery to high school, and an active illiteracy eradication program is underway.
In terms of health care, the sub-zone has a health center and three health stations which offer services to the population.
Looking to the future, Mr. Fitwi highlighted that key programs for 2025 would include water and soil conservation, improved water management and income-generating initiatives.
