Automated driving is becoming more widespread in Switzerland. Drivers of cars equipped with autopilot for the highway will, from March 1, be authorized to take their hands off the wheel, the TCS indicated on Tuesday.
They will also no longer need to constantly monitor traffic and the vehicle when driving on the highway, specifies the Touring Club Suisse (TCS) in a press release.
Driverless vehicles and automatic parking in dedicated spaces without being behind the wheel will also be authorized from March. For the moment, no manufacturer of vehicles equipped with autopilot on the highway has filed an application for authorization in Switzerland, according to the TCS.
These developments in automated driving are changing theoretical and practical driving tests for cars and motorcycles. Knowledge in this area will be tested from July 1.
Traffic noise sanctioned
The year 2025 is already marked by other changes in traffic rules. Exhaust noises have been prohibited since January 1st.
Any infraction can be punished by a fine of up to 10,000 francs. Fines linked to noise, such as nuisance caused by an engine left running while stationary, have also increased from 60 to 80 francs.
