Third in the super-G, Alexis Monney confirms in Bormio

No Swiss victory on Sunday in the Alpine Ski World Cup but two nice group shots for the men, in the super-G in Bormio, and for the ladies, in the slalom at Semmering. In Lombardy, the Friborg Alexis Monney, surprising winner of the downhill on Saturday ahead of the Bernese Franjo von Allmen, ranked third in a super-G won by the young Norwegian Fredrik Möller (24 years old), a neophyte at this level after two fourth places.

Trailing Möller by 24” and the Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr by 4”, Alexis Monney leads a Swiss quartet made up of Stefan Rogentin (4th), Marco Odermatt (5th) and Franjo von Allmen (6th). For the second time in a row, Marco Odermatt is “only” fifth, and it is almost a poor performance for the Nidwalden, who was pouting at the finish after a line error made at the entrance of a sleeper had caused him to lose a lot of time. The real bad news on the Swiss side came from Gino Caviezel, bib no. 1, victim of a heavy fall after going through a gate at full speed after 45 seconds of racing, and evacuated by helicopter, visibly injured in one leg.

Lara Gut-Behrami 9e en slalom géant

Among the ladies, the best place is Camille Rast’s 4th place on Sunday in the Semmering slalom. The day before, Lara Gut-Behrami had placed 9th in the giant slalom. Largely beaten by an impressive Zrinka Ljutic, who won with a 1’75 lead over the German Lena Dürr, Camille Rast nevertheless retained 1st place in the slalom world cup rankings. The Valaisanne also took over the general’s command.

No podium for the Swiss on Sunday in the Semmering slalom. Fourth in a race won by an impressive margin by the Croatian Zrinka Ljutic (20 years old), Camille Rast nevertheless retains 1st place in the discipline ranking. The Valaisanne also took over the general’s command. The 25-year-old Vétrozienne shows that she knows how to handle pressure and displays remarkable consistency in slalom this winter: 5th in Levi, 3rd in Gurgl, 1st in Killington and 4th in Semmering.

Behind her, Wendy Holdener finished 6th, Mélanie Meillard 7th and the surprising Eliane Christen 12th. Mélanie Meillard takes her fourth top 10 in four slaloms contested this winter. The skier from Hérémence may nevertheless regret the mistake made at the bottom of the second route, without which she could have aimed for the top 5. But she seems ripe for a first podium in slalom.
