Preparations for the 4th Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 are progressing rapidly, with delivery of sports infrastructure planned for December 2025, according to Balla Dièye, YOG Sports Director. Investments amount to 60 million euros, financed by the French Development Agency (AFD), or around 40 billion CFA francs, reports APS.
During a press conference organized by the Organizing Committee for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (COJOG), Balla Dièye indicated that the renovation work on the Dakar Olympic swimming pool and the Iba Mar Diop stadium was progressing well. satisfactory. “The Iba Mar Diop stadium and the Dakar Olympic swimming pool are the main infrastructures concerned,” he specified.
For the Iba Mar Diop stadium, it is reported that the stands have been demolished and that the foundation work is well advanced, with no delays to report. Supervision of the work is ensured by Ageroute, in collaboration with the COJOG, according to the APS.
Regarding the Olympic Swimming Pool, with the Tour de l’Œuf complex, the plumbing installation work has started and is progressing well. The deputy coordinator of the infrastructure improvement program, Saliou Sène, mentioned a 15% completion during a previous press conference.
In addition to Dakar, the towns of Diamniadio and Saly (Thiès) will also host YOG events. Balla Dièye underlines the importance of monitoring the level of execution of the work, in consultation with 35 national and international federations to ensure compliance with international standards.
Ibrahima Wade, general coordinator of OCOG Dakar 2026, expresses that the rehabilitation of infrastructure will be beneficial for Senegalese youth. He sees this as a lasting legacy for young people and athletes after the competition, in particular thanks to the renovation of local infrastructure.
