A pure product of AS Roma, Nicola Zalewski is having a difficult season like his club. Placed on the bench since the arrival of Claudio Ranieri, the 22-year-old Pole is logically considering a departure. OM is one of its most serious contenders.

Roberto de Zerbi not only brought a playing project to OM, he also gave the club visibility on the European scene. Marseille is much more desirable to players as evidenced by the names that arrived last summer: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Adrien Rabiot, Mason Greenwood, Geronimo Rulli. The aura of the former Brighton coach is a significant help for the Pablo Longoria-Mehdi Benatia duo, who often look to Serie A when recruiting. This is still the case currently since OM is closely monitoring young Roma player Nicola Zalewski.

OM want to recruit Zalewski for free

Trained at Roma, the 22-year-old Pole reaches the end of his contract next June. He does not intend to extend his lease as confirmed by journalist Matteo Moretto on X. Zalewski is used much less this season, rarely even coming into play with Claudio Ranieri on the Roman bench. OM are currently discussing with Roma regarding Zalewski. The two clubs as well as the player are trying to find a solution for the future, in particular for the last 6 months of the remaining contract.

Marseille could bring Zalewski back on loan until the end of the season before signing him for free next summer. However, Marseille are not the only ones wanting the free player in June. The profile of the Polish international (27 caps) will be validated by Roberto de Zerbi. Winger or left midfielder, he can evolve into a left piston if necessary. This would allow him to join the Italian coach's eleven or at least to offer serious competition to Quentin Merlin. The Olympians must not drag on this matter. Given his young age, his history and his potential, Nicola Zalewski risks triggering a real European fight in the transfer window.
