60,000 barrels per day: Italy announces good news for oil production in Ivory Coast; it will be boosted

The industry in Ivory Coast has just received excellent news from an Italian giant.

Indeed, the Italian energy group Eni has announced the early start of the second phase of production on the Baleine field, located off the Ivorian coast.

This is a joyful announcement since it indicates a boost in production for Côte d’Ivoire. More clearly, the country will see its oil production soar, with promising economic benefits.

This phase will indeed increase production to 60,000 barrels of oil per day (bbl/d) and 70 million standard cubic feet of associated gas per day (Mscf/d).

This is a notable progression compared to the first phase launched in August 2023, after the discovery of the Baleine field in September 2021.

This rapid development also shows the efficiency of Eni and the importance of this deposit for Ivory Coast.

The Baleine field is in fact the largest crude deposit in the country, with certified reserves of approximately 2.5 billion barrels of oil and 3.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Eni, which operates the operating license, plans to invest $10 billion in the development of this field, further highlighting its long-term commitment to the country.

Eni’s ambition does not stop there. A third phase of development is already planned for the Baleine field, with the aim of achieving an impressive production of 150,000 bbl/d and 200 Mscf/d.

Ultimately, the operator is even targeting production of 200,000 barrels per day. These projections, if they materialize, would propel Côte d’Ivoire to the rank of major player on the African oil scene.

Current projections indicate a significant increase in crude oil production, from 30,000 barrels per day in 2023 to 200,000 barrels per day by 2027.
