“Two air raids targeted the Buhais area in Medi district, Hajjah province,” the Houthis said in a statement, denouncing “American-British aggression.” They did not provide further details about the strikes.
On Friday, the Houthis reported an air strike against the capital Sanaa which they control, after claiming missile and drone attacks against Israel. They attributed this strike to Washington and London, which came the day after Israeli raids which left six people dead and damaged Sanaa airport. There has been no confirmation of this raid from the United States or the United Kingdom.
Furthermore, the Houthis claimed responsibility, in another statement published on Saturday, for a missile attack against the Nevatim base located in the Negev desert, in southern Israel. “A Palestine 2 type hypersonic missile successfully struck its target,” the statement said, while Israel reported the interception early Saturday of a missile fired from Yemen.
In their statement, the Houthis welcomed the demonstration held on Friday in Sanaa and other areas of Yemen under their control to denounce Israeli strikes and express support for the Palestinians. They promised to “continue attacks against the Israeli enemy until the end of the aggression against Gaza.”
Most Houthi attacks against Israel were countered or caused only material damage. But last Saturday, a missile injured 16 people in Tel Aviv, and in July, an Israeli civilian was killed in Tel Aviv by a drone explosion. Israel responded with airstrikes in Yemen.
For more than a year, Yemeni rebels have also attacked ships they consider linked to Israel, in the Red Sea and in the Gulf of Aden, saying they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Their attacks disrupted traffic in this strategic maritime area for global trade, prompting the United States to set up an international maritime coalition and strike rebel targets in Yemen, sometimes with help from the United Kingdom. Since then, the Houthis have also attacked boats linked to London and Washington.
