Nothing has gone well since Sunday and the surprise resignation of Carlos Tavares, who was only due to leave his position as general manager of Stellantis in 2026 at the end of his mandate.
Since then, everyone has been wondering who will succeed the Portuguese to whom we owe the recovery of PSA ten years ago and the formation of Stellantis in the early 2020s. Within the Stellantis group, the names ofAntonio Filosa (director of Jeep and director of operations of Stellantis in North America), of Maxime Picat (director of global purchasing at Stellantis) or even Jean-Philippe Imparato (director of Stellantis Europe) are being heard.
Luca de Meo denies
But also that of personalities outside the group such as that of Luca de Meo, the current general director of the Renault group, very prominent since his recovery of the French brand even if he A lot of work remains to ensure its sustainability (as well as that of Dacia and especially Alpine).
This is precisely what Luca de Meo answers when asked if he could take over Carlos Tavares' position: “I'm not looking for another job, I'm very happy at Renault and I haven't finished the job”he says in comments reported by the English journalists of Autocar.
Remember that Luca de Meo is Italian, which could have fit well with the strong men on the Stellantis board of directors. He managed Seat between 2015 and 2020 before reaching his current position, having already held important positions for the Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Abarth brands in the late 2000s. He then moved to the Volkswagen group from 2009 and we owe him the launch of the Cupra brand… which weakened Seat while growing.
