During his live this Sunday, January 5, Ousmane Sonko took a moment to explain the workings of the functioning of a State and the way in which certain decisions are taken at the level of the Republic, speaking directly to its activists, to the Senegalese and to Senegalese women. According to him, there are strict rules which govern appointments within the public administration and to which the President of the Republic must submit.

He clarified that for certain key positions, the choice of people does not fall directly to the president. “There are rules that apply and to which the president must comply. The choices for certain positions come from proposals made by members of different socio-professional categories,” he explained. This clarification aimed to highlight that certain appointment processes escape the direct control of President Diomaye.

Concerning the specific case of Aoua Bocar Ly Tall, Ousmane Sonko specified that he had been contacted directly by President Diomaye to give his opinion on the appointment of the latter to the CNRA. According to Sonko, he then gave his approval. “So if something goes wrong, I am just as responsible as the head of state,” he admitted, thus assuming part of the responsibility for this decision.

In this same logic, Sonko challenged Pastef activists, asking them to review their method of contesting certain decisions. According to him, “a State does not function in details” and it is not acceptable for party members to demand anything from the President of the Republic. “We must not threaten the President of the Republic,” he insisted, emphasizing the need to respect institutions and let those responsible work without pressure.

The Pastef leader also warned his supporters against certain traps, calling on them to exercise discernment and vigilance in the face of situations that could destabilize their Party. “Be attentive and do not fall into certain traps,” he warned, thus seeking to maintain discipline and unity within his party, while recalling the importance of the independence of political decisions at the level of the state.

This declaration demonstrates a desire to strengthen cohesion within Pastef while recalling the rules that govern a State.
