This infographic was updated live throughout the evening and election night, as the official results of the legislative elections by city and department were published on the website of the Monde.

Very many triangular ones

The far-right party of Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen is therefore credited with around 33% of the vote, according to the first national estimates. The RN is ahead of the New Popular Front on the left, which obtained a little over 28% of the vote. Far ahead of Emmanuel Macron’s camp at 21-22.1%, which will see its number of deputies considerably reduced, sealing the failure of the gamble of the head of state who dissolved the National Assembly on June 9. The Republicans, who did not form an alliance with the RN, are around 10%.

Participation broke records, as the number of proxies registered (nearly 3 million since June 9) showed during this whirlwind 3-week campaign. It stood at nearly 60% as of 5 p.m. This significant mobilization of voters also configures the second round: it allows more candidates to remain (for this it was necessary to obtain a number of votes greater than 12.5% of those registered). This greatly increases the number of triangulars with three candidates in the second round: out of the 577 constituencies, nearly 300 should be affected by such a situation, according to AFP figures published overnight from Sunday to Monday.

These triangulars, and the possible scenarios of withdrawal of a candidate to avoid a victory for an RN candidate, still make projections of what the future National Assembly should look like.

According to the projections of the Ifop Institute Assembly, the RN could claim 270 seats, while Ipsos projects 10 more, or 280. Harris and Elabe, for their part, place the highest range for the RN, estimated to be able to win between 295 and 310 seats. Projections that are based on withdrawal scenarios and electoral balances of power.

It is still too early for the RN to be able to claim an absolute majority after July 7: that is to say, that it manages to elect 289 deputies. But the scenario is possible, and in everyone’s minds, starting with Emmanuel Macron, who called on Sunday evening for a “large gathering” against the RN. “Not a single vote should go to the National Rally” in the second round, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal also declared from Matignon.

On the left, the instruction was similar: “In accordance with our principles and our constant positions in all previous elections, nowhere will we allow the RN to win, and this is why, in the event that it would have come first, while we would not that in third position, we will withdraw our candidacy”, declared Jean-Luc Mélenchon after the announcement of the results. On the same line as the other party leaders of the NFP, Olivier Faure, Fabien Roussel and Marine Tondelier.
