Carrying a seemingly fake “weapon” and “highly intoxicated”, a man was killed by a police officer after having “threatened” officers early Sunday morning in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, in Val-de-, indicated to AFP police sources and the Créteil public prosecutor's office. Around 6 a.m., police were called to an armed man who was “banging” on the door of a home, one of these sources explained.

The man threatened the police officers who arrived on the scene “by pointing a handgun and shouting ‘Allah akbar’”, she added. A police officer then “used his weapon” and hit the man who died despite the intervention of emergency services, she said. According to another police source, the agent fired three times. The man was shot once.

The IGPN entered

According to the first elements, the victim's weapon “was fake”, a source close to the case told AFP. The man, aged 30, was known for acts of “apology of terrorism” in 2019 according to police sources, but was not on S file. He was “very drunk” at the time of the facts, said a source close to the file.

The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) was contacted, as is the case every time a police officer uses his weapon. According to another source close to the case, a body-worn camera (used by the police) filmed all of the events. The police officer responsible for the shooting tested negative for drugs and alcohol, this source said. In 2022, 38 people died following police action, including 22 after a shooting, according to the latest available report from the IGPN.
