“I know he doesn’t drink, so I have a glass of milk for his health,” commented Mr. Deshaies, who has never hidden his affinities with Mr. Trump. He believes that the Republican “swept the United States” during the last presidential election, proudly wearing his pro-Trump cap during his interview with LCN on Wednesday.

“He was there in 2016 and it still went well. […] It’s his country. […] Then we, well, we’re going to have to work with him. Then Mr. Vance, he is a man who will be a moderator and that will help him,” he added.

Working together

Yvon Deshaies, who recognizes “that currently, there is a lot of fear”, was reassuring by pleading that now, “we must work together”.

“He’s an economics man, a businessman. And then, in the United States it takes a man like that to turn around the economy,” he argued.

The Republican’s promise to impose taxes on Canadian products does not worry the mayor of Louiseville.

“If Donald Trump taxes our companies, it is his people who will suffer. […] Example, we have furniture made in Louiseville. […] We export 83% to the United States, he illustrated. Well, if he charges us a huge surcharge, it’s his people who will pay the price. The kitchen set that Canada is going to sell, at such a price, with taxes, it is the American people who will pay.
