While soup is the perfect dish to warm up in winter, they are not all created equal. A nutritionist warns against a certain type of soup.
We knew we weren’t going to be able to escape it. But with the snow which has just fallen on part of France, there is no longer any doubt. Sure, we’re still officially in fall, but winter is coming. Another sign is unmistakable: we are moving into cocooning mode. At home, we took out the cuddly blankets to bundle up in them and we are starting to put comforting dishes on the menu. If it’s still a little early to whip out the raclette, it’s time to plate up some good soups. But, be careful, not just any! In a video for the “Better Eating” section of Yahoonutritionist doctor Arnaud Cocaul thus launches a warning against a certain type of soup.
The worst soup of all, to avoid absolutely according to a nutritionist
“Eating soup is very good for your health”first confirms Dr Cocaul. The doctor warns, however: “Be careful, because in supermarkets, the worst soups are everywhere”. The nutritionist advises to be wary of industrial soups, which are not at all good for your health. “They can make you believe that there are vegetables, but it may be agents which mimic the taste of certain vegetables. It may be additives, therefore chemical agents which mimic but which are not products first quality”explains the expert. With this type of preparation, “we fall into an ultra-processed diet, enriched with additives, added salt, added fats”. They are therefore “to flee” according to Dr Arnaud Cocaul.
But how can we recognize these bad soups? “The longer the list of ingredients, the more suspicious it is”alerts the doctor. “You need to keep the ingredients list as short as possible.”. But industrial soups are not only in the soup because of what is added to them. What is missing is just as problematic. The doctor accuses them of “lack of certain vitamins”as “vitamin A” et “certain B vitamins”. Dr Cocaul also points out the “reduction in fiber intake”. He therefore recommends more other products that are better for your health.
What is the best soup to put on the menu?
According to Dr. Arnaud Cocaul, it is preferable to consume vegetable soups and pumpkin soup. “There, you have a fiber intake which is much more interesting”3.75 grams of fiber for 250 ml according to the expert. He then specifies that the objective is “a daily intake of 20 to 30 grams of fiber per day”and that normal soups only provide“About 1 gram of fiber for a 250 ml bowl”. So there is “clear progress” with those he recommends. “So the best soups for me: vegetable soups, pumpkin soups, organic soups if you really want to avoid pesticides. The rest, be careful!”summarizes the nutritionist. And to conclude: “The best soup is homemade soup, it seems obvious”.
