A Quebecer who supports Donald Trump “100%” feels very alone in his camp on his Hawaiian archipelago, where the Democrats rule rain or shine.

“I firmly believe that the American elections this year are the most important in our history. I am a financial advisor, so the result will have an immense impact on my business and on the future of my children,” explains Nicolas Longpré, 43 years old.

“The average American has been led to believe that Donald Trump is an existential threat to our country, when that could not be further from the truth,” adds the Quebec expatriate.

Now the owner of a financial asset management company, the man from Montreal settled down by chance in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in 2001.

Nicolas Longpré then played baseball for Les Élites de Montréal and benefited from a scholarship that took him first to California, then to New York and Honolulu.

It was there that he met his wife, originally from Taiwan, with whom he had two boys, now aged 18 and 15.

Democratic State

But life isn’t always easy for a Republican in surfers’ paradise. Since joining the United States in 1959, only Republicans Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan have won Hawaii in presidential elections.

In short, the father fears that Kamala Harris will continue the policies of her predecessor, Joe Biden. The Democrat’s ideas endanger the American economy, he believes.

“Inflation will not decrease under Harris and government aid will increase, particularly for illegal immigrants,” he fears.

In contrast, Donald Trump “is the only candidate capable of bringing peace to the world, restoring the energy independence of the United States, reducing inflation and securing our borders”, thinks Mr. Longpré, who deplores that the media tend to demonize it.
