Huawei is not resting on its laurels. Its Pura 70 Ultra is already the best photophone on the market, the Pura 80 Ultra will raise the bar even higher with zoom improvements.
The king of mobile photography is about to make his comeback. According to the leaker Digital Chat Stationthe Huawei Pura 80 series will be launched as planned in the second quarter of 2025. We can expect a release window around April as usual. The Pura 80 will further improve the formula of the range to confirm its status as a supplier of the best photophones on the market.
To do this, the manufacturer would have notably planned to integrate a new periscopic telephoto lens, in order to improve the zoom capabilities of its devices. We don’t know if this will result in a deeper optical or digital zoom than on previous models, but we should at least see a gain in quality.
The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra should become the most efficient smartphone in photos
Huawei had introduced an extremely capable periscopic telephoto lens on the P60 series, capable of capturing a much greater amount of light than most other sensors of this type. It was then improved on the Pura 70, without disrupting the experience. A priori, we should see a new technological leap with the Pura 80. The latter would also feature an OmniVision OV50X main sensor measuring 1 inch.
Remember that the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is considered the best smartphone in the industry in photography by DXOMARK experts. It is number 1 in the ranking on three of the five major criteria retained by the DXOMARK evaluation: the photo quality of the main sensor, the management of the bokeh effect and the zoom performance.
Huawei has dominated the smartphone photo segment for many years with its P range, now Pura. This focuses precisely on the photo experience and Huawei devices are almost systematically the best in this area when they are released, and still for many months afterwards. The Mate range is dedicated to performance and incorporates the latest developments in chips.
