Mohamed Ould Errachid, of the Istiqlal Party (PI), was elected president of the House of Advisors for the second half of the 2021-2027 legislature, during a plenary session held on Saturday.
On this occasion, the elected representative of the southern provinces made a speech during which he underlined that the royal speech establishes the foundations of a decisive phase for the definitive resolution of the artificial conflict relating to our southern provinces.
The Sovereign reaffirmed the crucial importance of parliamentary diplomacy as well as the active role that parliamentarians and various actors must assume to obtain increased recognition of the Moroccan nature of the Sahara and broaden support for the autonomy initiative, considered the only viable solution to this regional dispute, added Ould Errachid.
In addition, the new president of the House of Advisors insisted on the fact that parliamentary diplomacy constitutes an essential facet of our national commitment, as a tool to strengthen Morocco’s position both regionally and internationally, while making others aware of its issues and defending its interests.
In addition, he clearly expressed his desire to place the national question at the heart of the priorities of the Chamber’s work program for the next three years, in order to consolidate the achievements made by Morocco through personal commitment and constant monitoring. of King Mohammed VI.
In this sense, Ould Errachid clarified that this requires “ an irreversible commitment on our part, expressed through our various functions, by defending and being actively involved in a multitude of events and parliamentary organizations, both regional and international. This aims to promote and recognize the legitimacy of our national cause, based on the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, which represents the only credible option to resolve the Moroccan Sahara issue.« .
In the same wake, the new president highlighted the positions of the French Republic and its clear support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara, stressing that this reflects the right and legitimacy of this cause, as also recognized by other influential nations. who grasped the scope of the royal speech on Morocco’s vision regarding its partners.
He indicated that “ the map of our main allies has expanded in all directions, thus strengthening the exclusive role of the United Nations in handling this issue, while taking into account the historical and geographical realities of the southern provinces, which are integrated into development overall national territory« .
Ould Errachid thus underlined the urgency of capitalizing on this momentum by making a strong voice heard in international forums in order to represent the institution in a manner aligned with the rich parliamentary heritage and the history of the Moroccan State, which spans more than 12 centuries of an unwavering bond between the monarchy and the people.
