Cycling World Championships: Swiss junior in “very critical” condition after fall

Young Swiss rider Muriel Furrer, 18, is in a “very critical” condition after falling heavily during the junior road race at the world championships on Thursday September 26 in Zurich, the International Cycling Union (UCI) said.

Terrible news at the World Cycling Championships after the junior women’s road race this Thursday. After a heavy fall for reasons that are still unknown, the Swiss Muriel Furrer (18 years old) suffers a serious head injury and is in a very critical condition.

UCI “extremely concerned”

“Muriel Furrer was taken to hospital by a rescue helicopter. She suffered severe head trauma and is in very critical condition.”announced the UCI, which says it is “extremely concerned” in a press release.

“At present, there are no proven facts regarding the course of the accident. Investigations by the competent authorities are ongoing.”the authority added.

The junior race took place on Thursday morning on wet roads, while heavy showers fell on Zurich throughout the day.
