A video in which Kanye West appears to be listening to an unreleased track, on which Pomme's voice sounds, is making the rounds on social networks. The French singer expresses her disbelief.
Mixture of genres. For several days now, a video has been circulating on the internet in which we see American rapper Kanye West, in the studio, listening to what appears to be an unreleased piece of his composition. On this mysterious title resonates the voice of Pomme, taken from his own song Sun sun dated 2019. Images which greatly displeased the French singer, as she explained on Instagram this Monday, January 6.
“I have never given my consent for the use of this sample (when a song takes a musical element from another, as seems to be the case for Kanye West's song, Editor's note)”, writes- She.
Kanye West has previously been accused of borrowing from artists without their permission. In 2024, Donna Summer's rights holders criticized her for using the title I Feel Love on his song Good (Don’t Die) without having obtained permission. Ozzy Osbourne, for his part, was moved to hear an extract from a performance by his group Black Sabbath on a track by the rapper, ensuring that this sample had been refused to him.
A “deep disagreement”
The interpreter of Grandiose declares itself opposed to the use of its music by the rapper, “for reasons which seem obvious to (him)”: “(I) deeply disagree with the political positions of this artist whom I nevertheless greatly admired by the past,” she writes.
“It’s sometimes difficult to give up on certain opportunities but I prefer to respect my deep values,” concludes the singer.
Kanye West has been generating controversy for several years. After supporting Donald Trump in 2016, he himself ran for president in 2020, displaying anti-abortion and anti-vaccine views. In addition, he has distinguished himself by several anti-Semitic outings since 2022, which has caused him to break off his lucrative relations with Adidas et Balenciaga. The rapper then assured having lost 2 billion dollars in one day. In addition, he is accused of sexual assault by a former assistant.
Mysterious extract
No information has filtered out on the origin of the video of Kanye West in the studio which is circulating on social networks, relayed in particular by the NFR Podcast account. The sequence ends with the rapper approaching the author of the images, signaling him to cut, suggesting that he was filmed without his knowledge.
We also know nothing about the song heard, only 30 seconds of which are transcribed in the video. According to Complex, it could be an extract from his next album, Bully, announced last September.
Pomme has established itself as one of the faces of the new French scene with its albums The Rifts (2019), Consolation (2022) et Seasons (2024). She won the Victoire de la musique for the revelation album in 2020, then that of female artist of the year in 2021.
