Lara Fabian: “It’s unfair to be destroyed for what constitutes us”

A sunny, positive, generous and fiery artist, our guest of the week has just released a new album. Lara Fabian is Déborah Grunwald’s guest.

Lara Fabian, the singer-songwriter and performer at the 25 million albums sold around the world, returns with a new album titled I am here where she talks about many subjects such as parentage, hope or love.

She also talks abouthypersensitivity and our relationship with others: “I believe that there are people who avoid hypersensitivity because they are absolutely incapable of facing what it would do to them to be hypersensitive. They choose to 'shell' themselves and abandon what was originally their true nature. We are all born hypersensitive. At birth, we are all made to contribute to others but we forget this from the moment when, having been hypersensitive, at a young age, we are tackled, torn, mutilated. And there, we say to ourselves that we forget this hypersensitivity. And when we meet someone who is hypersensitive and they mirror that to us, it attacks us and it reminds us to what extent, when we touch this zone of vulnerability, we can taste life and be open to others”.

A hypersensitivity which will therefore cost Lara Fabian years of fighting against criticism of his voice. Among the critics, a famous puppet show did not hesitate to emphasize its rejection of the powerful voice of the Belgian-Canadian: This is one of the most violent impacts of my lifeI will have to work a lot on my heart, on my body, to be able to overcome this violence. It's unfair to be destroyed for what constitutes us. But to say that it is a scream, a vomit, it's unlistenable and above all spreading the word with such consistency that people ended up believing it, that's what was difficult. […] I'll never let anyone talk to me like that again or allow ourselves to redefine the situation like that”.
