Metro Boomin wants to leave streaming platforms

Metro Boomin wants to withdraw from streaming platforms.

“My next album will probably be the last one to be streamed.”

Let his fans rest assured, this announcement has nothing to do with the end of his career. On June 25, Metro Boomin announced to his fans via Instagram that he would soon withdraw from streaming platforms. A choice that can be explained by the Difficulties encountered by artists regarding the remuneration earned by streams :

A fan must stream an artist’s music 20 times a day for an entire year for that artist to earn $25 from a fan. This is why my next album will probably be the last to be streamed.”

It is not not the first rapper to question this system. Already last March, Kanye West told the site YeFantatics that he was considering not releasing his new album “Vultures 2” with Ty Dolla $ign, on streaming services.

We sell albums on Yeezy.com. I have 20 million followers on Instagram. When 5% of my followers buy an album, that’s 1 million albums sold, which is 300,000 more than the biggest album last year.We sold 1 million items on Yeezy.com on Super Bowl Sunday, so we know it’s possible. What do you think about the fact that we don’t do streaming and only sell the album digitally?[ ?]”

For Ye, a boycott is necessary so that artists are better considered by the system:

When we get there, streaming companies will no longer control the artist.”

Following this exchange, the fan account shared a ssurvey to find out if fans wanted parts two and three of the Vultures trilogy to be exclusively for sale on Kanye’s websitewhat 87.5% of respondents answered that they were against. For fans of the rapper, it would be a better idea if the album was available on streaming services, because “many fans don’t have the option to pay for the album and others will pirate it.” A statement that did not please Ye, who hastened to respond :

“It would be nice if our community supported the albums. Streaming is piracy.”
