Chris Broderick says he enjoys greater artistic freedom in In Flames than in Megadeth

In a recent appearance on Jonathan Montenegro’s My 3 Questions To series, guitarist Chris Broderick reflected on his musical journey from Megadeth to In Flames. Broderick, who joined In Flames in early 2019, shared his thoughts on the artistic freedom he now enjoys, contrasting it with his experience within Megadeth.

Broderick praised In Flames band members Anders Fridén and Björn Gelotte, who gave him greater creative freedom. “They undoubtedly give me more freedom because I have the possibility to develop [mes idées] in my way”, he explained. While acknowledging that In Flames ultimately sets the direction of their albums, he appreciates their openness to his contributions. “I would very much like to enrich [leur musique]and they’ve already allowed me to do it, which I love.”

Broderick’s departure from Megadeth in 2014, announced just hours after that of drummer Shawn Drover, was fueled by a desire for greater artistic expression. “Everyone knows that Megadeth is Dave [Mustaine]And this is very well so”, Broderick told Ultimate Guitar. While respecting Mustaine’s leadership, he added that he yearned for a platform that would allow him to fully express his musical and artistic choices.
