Nearly 180,000 visitors at the first Nîmes Triennial

The Contemporary of Nîmesthe first Triennial organized by the city of Gard, attracted nearly 180,000 visitors in two and a half months (April 5-June 23).
The event attracted exactly 176,826 visitors.

Nearly 100,000 people came to see the works in public spaces, while 80,000 went to places hosting the works, particularly museums.
For Mayor Jean-Paul Fournier, “La Contemporaine de Nîmes has enabled Nîmes to position itself on an innovative cultural axis, to benefit from very significant press coverage in France and abroad, and therefore to diversify its tourist attractiveness”...

The project was ambitious and the two selected commissioners, Anna Labouze & Keimis Henni, had also involved 600 people from the town, mainly schoolchildren, in the preparation of the event.
The result is also positive for museums, some of which have seen record attendance.
Satisfaction also for the closing weekend, where more than 2,500 people took part in the Pissevin district fair.

  • Part of the programming extends beyond the summer, notably at Carré d’art, the Musée du Vieux Nîmes or the Musée des Beaux-Arts.
