“We are witnessing an era where social media consumes our identity…”; Lacuna Coil announce tenth album, Sleepless Empire, and release new single Oxygen

The famous Italian Metal band Lacuna Coil returns with a big announcement: their tenth studio album, Sleepless Empire, will be released on February 14, 2025. With 11 new tracks, this album follows Black Anima, released in 2019. To mark this new milestone , the group released their first single, titled Oxygen, already available for streaming.

An introspective and emotionally charged single

Lacuna Coil singer Christina Scabbia described Oxygen as a powerful exploration of emotional struggles and inner conflicts. She explained: “Oxygen expresses this feeling of drowning in a toxic environment, where any attempt at salvation, symbolized by oxygen, seems vain. This track is a true anthem of vulnerability, resilience and the courage to face the insurmountable.”

Oxygen’s music video features Scabbia in the water, symbolizing the struggle to escape what holds us back. According to the singer, filming in these conditions for several hours was a cathartic experience: “The pleasant feeling of floating could turn dangerous and deadly in an instant, which fit perfectly with the theme of the song.”

An album with modern and committed themes

According to the band, Sleepless Empire was inspired by the work done on Comalies XX. This album seeks to capture the chaos of a generation trapped in an ever-changing digital world. “We are witnessing an era where social media consumes our identity and where each day brings us a little closer to being soulless zombies”explains the group. Through each song, Lacuna Coil expresses a rebellion against this invasive digital reality.

The album also features notable collaborations, including with Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe on Hosting The Shadow and New Years Day’s Ash Costello on In The Mean Time.

Upcoming projects for Lacuna Coil

In addition to the release of Sleepless Empire, Lacuna Coil is planning several formats for this album, including a box set edition including a divination game accompanied by personalized dice. Pre-orders are already open.

The group will also be on tour this fall, with a date planned in on October 12, 2024 at the Transbordeur Club in .
