Fancy an action movie? Here are 6 films to discover at the cinema this summer: the return of Largo Winch, Roschdy Zem as an action-man, Deadpool facing Wolverine or even a tribute to Hong Kong action films from the 80s.

Elyas – Released July 3

Studiocanal

Between Man on Fire, Jason Bourne, John Wick and Equalizer, Elyas promises to be a feverish action film with a sharper than ever Roschdy Zem. The latter plays Elyas Florès, a former Special Forces soldier, solitary and paranoid.

He becomes a bodyguard for Nour, 13, and her mother Amina, who come from the Middle East. While the ex-warrior and the young girl get to know each other, a mysterious commando targets them. Elyas will stop at nothing to save her.

The film is directed by an action specialist, Florent Emilio-Siri, who notably directed Nid de guêpes, Otage or L’ennemi intime. He then directed episodes of the series Marseille with Gérard Depardieu and Benoît Magimel. He had not returned to the cinema since Pension complète in 2015. In Elyas, Roschdy Zem will be surrounded by Laëtitia Eïdo, Jeanne Michel, Sherwan Haji, Nabil Elouahabi and Dimitri Storoge.

Deadpool & Wolverine – Released July 24

Marvel

Deadpool & Wolverine

Superhero, sci-fi, comedy, buddy movie, action… Deadpool & Wolverine ticks all the boxes.

Six years after Deadpool 2, and after being bought by Disney, the irreverent anti-hero Deadpool, still played by Ryan Reynolds, is back and this time he is accompanied by his accomplice Wolverine played by Hugh Jackman.

Directed by Shawn Levy, the Marvel film will see the two legendary heroes make a sensational entrance into the MCU. Many superheroes and mutants who have already appeared in previous films are expected to make cameos, like Jennifer Garner in the role of Elektra. But different variants of the heroes should also appear like Dogpool or Lady Deadpool, whose identity is still kept secret.

In the feature film announced in our theaters on July 24, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will have to team up to face Cassandra Nova, the twin sister of Professor Xavier, played on screen by Emma Corrin (The Crown). The two friends will also be surrounded by Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Rob Delaney (Peter) and Brianna Hildebrang (Negasonic).

Borderlands – Released August 7

SND

In the works since 2015, the film adaptation of the Borderlands video game saga will arrive in theaters on August 7, 2024. The film is carried by a top-notch cast with Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt and Florian Munteanu.

Highly appreciated by gamers for its whimsical universe and its crazy characters, the Borderlands franchise has notably dusted off the looter-shooter genre (open-world tactical extraction shooting game). With 83 million copies sold, the license is one of the best-selling in the world.

In the film by Eli Roth, we will follow Lilith, a bounty hunter with a troubled past. She reluctantly returns to her home planet, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. His mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the most powerful (and most despicable) man in the universe. To get there Lilith will have to form an unexpected alliance with a happy team of misfits.
