She is French, her name is Emily Bondi and she has just finished the very first women's MotoGP world championship (organized by Dorna) in the top 15! A series that we told you about at the start of the year and comprising six dates, significantly less than the men's championship. Proof that there is still a lot to do in terms of parity, also on two wheels.
Women's MotoGP: 25 riders entered in 2024
Concretely, there were 25 drivers, coming from all over the world, to compete on three circuits namely; Misano, Donington, Cremona, Portimao, Estoril and Jerez. However, everything started badly for the former French champion, who broke her foot almost a month before the launch of the 2024 season.
Finishing eight races this season, Emily's best result was a good 8th place in Italy, as well as three top tens in total over 12 rounds organized. Knowing that two events took place during each weekend.
“I didn't know that motorcycling could be a high-level sport or even a sport in general, and even less that it was possible for women since there is no reference. I believed that only men could practice it and become champions, that's what we are shown on TV or on Netflix, with this world championship I am proud to pave the way for all those who love it. adrenaline and surpassing oneself…..I have the ambition through my races and with the help of my partners, to demonstrate that women have their place in this environment” says Emily Bondi.
Ranked fourteenth overall, Emily Bondi does not intend to stop there, after such a solid start. But above all, she feels like a bearer of hope for the future, with a clear and strong message, intended to change mentalities in this sport.
« I want that each circuit race becomes the powerful symbol of “it’s possible”, as if to invite or inspire all women and girls who dream of pursuing their passion, without hindrance, without borders or stereotypes. I want to demonstrate that my potential on a motorcycle is not determined by my gender but by the indomitable desire to follow my dreams with unfailing determination and a lot of work. »
So, see you next year with, why not, a first podium to celebrate? The story just needs to be written…
