As is often the case after a MotoGP Grand Prix, we make a quick update regarding the rider rankings. And we are particularly interested in the championship within the championship, that of Japanese motorcycle pilots. The latter involving our two representatives in the premier category to have, Johann Zarco (Honda) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha).

MotoGP: LCR riders on the podium, ahead of the official Hondas

Concretely, with 50 points ahead of the LCR driver, Fabio Quartararo should hands down win the honorary title of best Japanese driver – barring a huge surprise/poker move, this season. Something that won’t even raise an eyebrow, it goes without saying, given his quest for excellence and perfection. On the other hand, the place of runner-up for the Yamaha rider is quite contested. Although Johann Zarco has been the leader of this “championship” for quite a while.

In addition, JZ5 is gradually increasing its lead, due to its recent good performances. The LCR driver (with 36 points on the clock) is now 8 points ahead of his teammate, Takaaki Nakagami, third in the standings. Because, yes, the official drivers are behind those of the satellite team. And the gap seems to be widening, gradually. Joan Mir is tied for third with Alex Rins (Yamaha), both men scoring 20 points.

For his part, Luca Marini is dead last, with only 7 points scored. Here is the complete ranking, pending the MotoGP Australian Grand Prix, which will take place in a few days.
