“The students had already left the college, only the internal students were still in the establishment” explains Commander Ismaël Baa, head of the Alençon-Argentan gendarmerie company. The principal notified the police. Around twenty students and as many people living near the college were then evacuated. “The structure was cordoned off and inspected by personnel trained in explosive recognition”adds the officer, who specifies that it was necessary to use all the “time necessary for the removal of doubt”.
A security PC installed at the town hall
During the intervention, the gendarmes installed a security PC at the Gacé town hall, while the firefighters ensured stewardship among the students and residents hosted in the Tahiti room. At the same time, two rescue and victim assistance vehicles, fire engines, had been installed near the site.
An open judicial investigation
“It was important to do as much as possible to be efficient, while creating as little nuisance as possible for the population,” indicates Commander Baa. At 9:30 p.m., the college inspection was still in progress. At the end of the intervention, “All people will be able to return to their homes. A judicial investigation is underway to verify the circumstances of the call.”
