These two airlines, launched by Air Arabia Maroc with the support of the Oriental region, are part of joint efforts aimed at strengthening air connectivity between the cities of the region and other cities in the Kingdom and to promote the economic and tourist development of the Oriental region.

This flight was welcomed in the presence of the wali of the Oriental region, governor of the prefecture of Oujda-Angad, Khatib El Hebil, the president of the Council of the Oriental region, Mohamed Bouarourou, and the general director of Air Arabia Maroc, Laila Mechbal, as well as members of the regional council and military and civilian figures.

Mr. Bouarourou underlined, in a statement to MAP, that these two new lines are the result of two partnership agreements signed between the regional council, the company “Air Arabia Maroc” and the wilaya of Oriental, aimed at strengthen air connectivity between the airports of Oujda-Angad and Nador El Aroui and the airport of Rabat-Salé.

He explained that this initiative is part of the commitments of the regional council in terms of economic and tourism promotion of the region and strengthening its attractiveness, thus contributing to the achievement of socio-economic development in this region of the Kingdom.

He specified that the two agreements, approved by the Council during the ordinary session of October 2024, required an investment estimated at 24,304,497 dirhams in order to support the launch of these two direct lines at preferential rates, for a period extending over three years, renewable.

The president of the Oriental Regional Council added that three return flights per week have been scheduled for the Rabat-Oujda line: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays in winter, and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays in summer.

He considered that the launch of these two new lines will strengthen the existing air links between the Oriental region and other regions of the Kingdom, in addition to the air lines supported by the Regional Council with Royal Air Maroc and which connect the airports of the Oriental region at Casablanca airport.

This will allow the region to realize and implement an ambitious strategy aimed at making it an attractive and open destination at the national and international levels, in response to the expectations of the region’s inhabitants who often encounter difficulties in reaching the capital. by other means of transport already available, he said.

For her part, Ms. Mechbal welcomed the launch of the first airline linking the capital of the Kingdom to the thousand-year-old city of Oujda, stressing that this connection will contribute to reducing travel times, encouraging tourism and facilitating transport. movement of Moroccan and foreign travelers between the two cities.

She explained that this line will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 174 seats, with three weekly flights starting today, noting that the company will work with the competent authorities to encourage this line in order to increase the number of flights in the future.

In addition to this first flight which linked Oujda to Rabat, a new line will be launched next Sunday between Rabat and the city of Nador.
