Larzac, land of rave parties?

#AVEYRON Should we expect more rave parties on the Larzac plateau in 2025? This is a question that was asked, after the arrival of several thousand people, between Hérault and Aveyron, to celebrate the new year. Although made public at the last moment, the Aveyron prefecture published a decree to prohibit this event the same day. “This allows us to carry out a whole bunch of checks” explains Véronique Martin-Saint-Léon, sub-prefect of the district.

A security system had been deployed by the Aveyron gendarmes and although agitated in front of the musical installation, the party had not overflowed. Organizers risk up to six years in prison and a fine of up to €10,000 for organizing such parties. If everything went well during the last two festivals organized on the fly on the Larzac, certain events can be more problematic than others, particularly when they take place on the land of private owners.

Leaded cribs

#MONTPELLIER After the closure of the Edelweiss nursery due to risks of lead exposure, the Children's House presents the same problems. Also a public meeting was organized to inform parents who were encouraged to have blood lead tests carried out in order to remove any suspicion. And the first returns are reassuring.

“I know there was a lot of anxiety over the school holidays,” apologized Tasnime Akbaraly, early childhood assistant. “Lead poisoning problems are mainly linked to the ingestion of these lead paints. The risk through inhalation is much less significant”indicated Jean-François Rioufol, director of the early childhood center.

SNCF strike renewed

#HERAULT The CGT Cheminots Béziers has renewed for this Wednesday, January 8, the strike that began on Sunday, January 5. The strikers denounce “the lack of staff, drivers and controllers on the TER and intercity service on the Béziers-Neussargues line”.

“Users of the line must know that train cancellations are a consequence of lack of staff. Not to mention that users are often confronted with the absence of a controller in the trains, which leads to a lack of information on their journey and their connections” says a union official.

Today's figure: 7.5

#GARD This is, in kg, the weight of truffles stolen from a farm in Saint-Victor-des-Oules in December 2024. The owner estimates that the accused came on five occasions, at least, with a harvest of around 1.5 kg per night.

Using a well-established process, the individual cut the fence and entered the field with his truffle dog. He was arrested and 4 kg of black diamonds were returned to the owner. He is due to appear in court in May 2025.

Farmers supporting theirs in Mayotte

HERAULT I still have a pit in my stomach when I think about everything I saw there.” recognizes the president of the Hérault Chamber of Agriculture, Jérôme Despey, in charge, among other things, of relations with and Mayotte within the FNSEA. FNSEA and JA have mobilized to release emergency aid to the 1,350 farms and 3,000 farmers on the island.

100 chainsaws were dispatched so farmers could clear roads leading to their land. “Everything has to be rebuilt and replanted because, beyond the economic emergency, there is also a vital emergency. Farmers must be able to resume their production as quickly as possible.”
