The Saint-Pierre public prosecutor's office has taken a decision to dismiss the investigation into alleged domestic violence against Dr. Benjamin Dusang, announced the newspaper Le Quotidien in its Tuesday, January 7 edition.
The former president of the departmental council of the Order of Physicians of Reunion Island was the target of a complaint filed by his ex-wife in September 2023. In a classification decision taken last November, the prosecution explains, according to the newspaper, having dismissed part of the facts as being prescribed, and another as insufficiently characterized.
“Various investigative acts were carried out (hearings, psychological examination, background searches)”quotes Le Quotidien, but “There is no serious or consistent evidence at the end of this investigation allowing the opening of a judicial investigation, nor sufficient charges to prosecute Benjamin Dusang before a criminal court.”
In June 2024, Dr Lise François, a general practitioner in the South, revealed that she had filed a complaint in November 2023 against her ex-spouse Dr Benjamin Dusang, then president of the Departmental Council of the Order of Physicians and from whom she has been separated for ten years old, accusing him of physical and psychological violence against him.
An investigation, concerning alleged facts dating back to 2008, was opened by the Saint-Pierre public prosecutor's office. Contacted by Réunion la 1ère, Dr Dusang then mentioned “Foul accusations.”
The affair broke out in the context of elections within the council of the Order then chaired by Dr Dusang, with Dr François seeking an advisor position. Other procedures were also underway in the context of their conflictual separation.
The lawyer of Dr Lise François, Me Hachim Fadili, declared to Le Quotidien that his client had filed a complaint with the dean of the investigating judges of Saint-Pierre with the constitution of a civil party following the classification decision taken by the parquet.
Regarding the ordinal body, the Departmental Council of the Order of Physicians was dissolved on October 23 by the Regional Health Agency of Reunion citing dysfunctions in a context of “strong dissensions within the medical community of Reunion Island “.
A decision that came six days after the annulment by the administrative court of the June 2024 elections.
