Environment Canada has issued alerts for the sectors of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie and the northern sector of the Laurentides wildlife reserve, where accumulations ranging from 30 to 50 centimeters are forecast. until Friday.
“The stationary system brings moisture-laden northern air, which will bring abundant precipitation,” explained Gina Ressler, meteorologist at Environment Canada.
However, the snow will be a little less present in the areas further south of Quebec.
In Montreal, 5 to 10 centimeters should fall by Thursday. A similar picture can be painted in the Capitale-Nationale region.
“It’s really a local effect,” said Ms. Ressler, who however indicated that road conditions are likely to be difficult in the coming days.
“You can see black ice forming on the roads. The winds will also cause blowing snow and rapid accumulations of snow,” she added.
Cold temperatures
The Metropolis should keep its white carpet, since the mercury risks getting closer to seasonal norms until the end of the week.
Western Quebec should even show colder temperatures than normal.
Only the east of the province would be warmer than normal, said Gina Ressler.
